Over the last few years I’ve seen really got back into reading which I’m so pleased about as it’s always been something I’ve loved. This year’s goal is to read 23 books (at least) since it’s the year and all.
I decided to do more book reviews as my Kissing Booth series book reviews were really popular back in 2020 and I personally have found a lot of good recommendations from reading lists online.
Book 1: Sugar High: The Unexpected Journey of an Inexperienced Type One Diabetic by Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park is a successful Actress from Australia and has starred in many popular films and series including the hit E! show ‘The Royals’. In this book which is a detailed biography almost of her life experience as an actress and how she managed the different stages of being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
I can honestly say this is totally different to any other book I’ve read. It was so refreshing to read such an honest and unedited account of all topics from how to make it in the entertainment industry and how being diagnosed with an illness can affect you.
One of the main themes of the book would be the determination and strength showed by Alexandra by following her dreams and not letting anything stand in her way. The whole book felt very authentic and relatable in something that on the surface might feel a million life’s away from your own. Some parts again were great ‘omg that would be me’ moments such as taking the best outfits from her character Eleanor’s wardrobe.
The book has a great balance of celebrity lifestyle, raw health issues and general life that we all come across in some scale in our life. Alexandra states herself while the topic may be quite heavy this is a book with the intention of showing yes there can be struggles but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it!
I picked this book to read as I like Alexandra as an actress and was interested in a personal book having a bigger focus than just here’s every detail of my personal life.
A key lesson life to take away from an excellent read: life can be hard, you never know what other people are going through and you can achieve your dreams. Highly recommend a really interesting read!
