Disney On Ice: 100 Years of Magic

Last month I went to Disney On Ice for the first time since 2008! I used to go all the time when I was young and the last show I saw was High School Musical: The Ice Tour. I’ve actually looked at going to see recent productions however they haven’t came to the arena near me. So when I saw that 100 Years Of Magic was coming I knew I definitely wanted to go.

While the show was a month ago it is still touring around other cities in the country, so I don’t want to give away too many spoilers just in case!

One thing I knew I had to get was the snow cone in a novelty cup. This may sound random but if you’ve ever been to Disney On Ice then you’ll now it’s the must have every time haha.

After starting with a spectacular opening number including Mickey and Minnie in band show outfits; the show featured many different sections from a variety of Disney films, with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy narrating along the way.

Some movies were brought to life just in song and others with little scenes as well as the musical number. Movies featured included Pinocchio, Finding Dory, and a section with all of the princesses. Two of the more feature performances came from The Lion King and Mulan sequences. Of course Frozen was also centre stage in the middle of the show.

My favourite part was definitely the Mulan section because it is one of my favourites with a great soundtrack that often doesn’t get the same attention as other princess films. So it was great to get a lengthy performance with multiple songs and really impressive ice skating skills and tricks.

The show ended with a group number of all the characters throughout the show joining together.

I really had such a great time and it was the perfect way to have a fun afternoon and some Disney magic closer to home. Going as an adult it was also great to appreciate the skills of the ice skaters and the production of the different performances!

I’m so glad I got to experience it again and will definitely be keeping an eye for when it’s next touring and coming to Newcastle to go again! Which is also great as the tours and productions change regularly so there’s always something new to see!
