For our trip to Walt Disney World one of our first decisions was where we wanted to stay. I knew we definitely wanted to stay on property, because of all the benefits mentioned in my top tips post, and I stayed on property on my first trip in 2000. I stayed at Disney’s Beach Club Resort then so I thought it would be fun to stay somewhere else as all of the resorts are amazing.
From the beginning when looking through brochures and online one jumped out straight away. Port Orleans Resort – Riverside (POR) looked perfect for the trip we were planning. There are 3 levels of resorts at Disney, Value, Moderate and Deluxe. POR is a moderate resort so was nice to have a bit more luxury but still within our budget.
The resort is themed to New Orleans with a rural feel set with white mansions and forests along the Sassagoula River. We were staying in one of the houses themed to the mansion side of the resort. Our room was a great size with two double beds. A table and chairs, big set of draws, wardrobe, very spacious bathroom, TV, coffee machine and mini fridge.
Right from check in we couldn’t of had a better experience with this hotel. All of the staff from reception to catering to maintenance etc. could not of been more helpful and friendly.
The resort offers many different services and activities. There is bus transportation to all of the parks and can even take a boat to nearby Disney Springs. Recreational activities also included, the main pool with a slide and a pool bar, movies under the stars, campfire, kids playground, rental bikes and carriage rides. (Some activities are time and weather dependant and some have an extra charge) Complimentary Wi-Fi is also offered.
We made good use of the quick service food court. We ate breakfast majority of mornings and thoroughly enjoyed it and found there to be a good range to choose from. We also had lunch and tea at the resort several times and had great meals, so I found this great to have as a good food option when not in the parks. The resort also has a table service restaurant which looked very good which offered Southern inspired food.
POR is Disney’s biggest resort however I found this to be a lovely thing. Port Orleans Resort – Riverside also has a ‘sister like’ resort, Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter (POFQ). POFQ is Disney’s smallest resort and whilst still set to the theme of New Orleans it has a more Mardi Gras feel. The resorts are next to each other and are separate resorts in terms of pools, restaurants etc. however POFQ can easily be walked to along the river which was very picturesque.
I genuinely can not express how much we loved this resort. We found everything to be amazing and really helped make our trip perfect. I could go on and on writing about it but hopefully I’ve gave a good overview to help with how we found this resort. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend.
