Dumbo at Odeon Metrocentre

I think it’s definitely fair to say this year is the most excited I’ve been for all the amazing Disney films coming out. So I thought why not write what I thought about the film Dumbo, since it’s the first one of Disney’s to be released in 2019!

I was quite excited to see Dumbo because obviously it’s Disney and I love everything Disney. Saying this I haven’t actually seen the original animation Dumbo since I was younger as I have always found it so sad. Therefore I couldn’t really remember the full scene by scene of the film so was excited to rewatch it in live action.

We saw the film at Odeon at the Metrocentre and paid for premier seats so it was a more enjoyable cinema experience. We bought our tickets on the day at the ticket office and had one of the best customer service experiences that I have experienced at a cinema!

The film itself to sum up, I LOVED it! As soon as Mrs Jumbo was on screen she looked so cute and was so impressed with the CGI that I was already invested in the story. Then when Dumbo was shown this was x100.

I don’t want to include any spoilers because there is nothing worse. So overall I loved the film I think it was exactly what a live action needed to be. The story did differ in some ways from the original (I remembered more of the original after watching this version) but I think it helped make this film more of its own.

I have seen a few things where people have said they found it quite dark in terms of tone, picture and story in comparison to the original. I think it helped make the story relevant by doing this though as at the end of the day it’s about animals in a circus. At the time of the original this was the norm and the animation is a family film, whilst this is still a family film, today there is more awareness of how animals are treated in the circus therefore making this version all colourful and cheery would of been a contradiction to how an elephant like Dumbo would be.

The actors were perfect for the roles in the story and I felt the focus on family and being brave, believing in yourself was perfect.

Disney did a great job in giving the film a more relevant and adapting on the old film while still doing it justice. Making my love for Dumbo grow!

Also keeping with my love of everything Disney, Dumbo the Flying Elephant was one of my favourite rides from my 1st trip to Walt Disney World at age 3 and so it was so fun to ride it again on my recent trip especially knowing the film was coming out.
